FAIRLAND, OK – Fairland High School’s esports program is off to a dominant start as two of its teams, the Fairland Owl Goonies and the Fairland Owl Violators, went undefeated in their preseason Super Smash Bros. games. Under the leadership of Coach Stelle, the Owls proved they are a force to be reckoned with as they head into the regular season.
The Fairland Owl Goonies claimed back-to-back victories, defeating White Hall High School (Arkansas) with a score of 7–4 and overcoming Richland Two Institute of Innovation (South Carolina) 6–3. The team is made up of standout players Curtis Rouell, Caleb Green, David Schuster, and Taylor Fry.
Not to be outdone, the Fairland Owl Violators also went undefeated, securing a 6–2 win over Charleston High School (Illinois) and another 6–2 victory against Itawamba Agricultural High School (Mississippi). The team roster features Spencer Oswald, Trae Kleinknight, Jerry Lodwick, and Carson King.
Meanwhile, the Fairland Owl Scarlet team, consisting of Connor Green, Luke Wilkes, and Dontaye Vang, was unable to compete during the preseason but will hopefully be able to join the action soon.
“I’m proud of how our players competed and stayed focused, their dedication is paying off, however this is just preseason,” said Coach Stelle. “What matters now is how we prepare, how we execute, and how we respond when faced with adversity. Our goal is to keep improving every day."
The regular season kicks off this Wednesday, September 24. The Owl Violators will face Wynnewood High School, while the Owl Goonies will take on Foyil High School in their first official matches of the year.
